Built for the content that actually exists
A good theme is not a gallery of unused components. Before development, the required page types, navigation, repeated content and editing needs are defined so the theme contains the structures the website will actually use.
Editing experience
The backend should make routine content changes understandable without giving editors hundreds of unnecessary controls. Depending on the project, this may use native WordPress blocks, custom fields or specific editable components agreed during scoping.
Performance and accessibility
Custom themes can avoid a large amount of unused page-builder code, but custom does not automatically mean fast or accessible. The build still needs deliberate CSS, JavaScript, image handling, responsive behaviour, keyboard states, colour contrast and semantic markup. These are considered as part of the theme implementation.
SEO foundations
Theme code can support clean headings, metadata output, structured data, crawlable navigation and sensible templates, but SEO also depends on content and page strategy. Where required, theme work can be combined with SEO services or keyword research.
Third-party tools
Third-party plugins or libraries may still be used when they solve a real requirement better than custom code. Premium licences, APIs, stock assets or paid services remain client costs unless the quotation explicitly includes them.
Revisions and scope
Unlimited revisions are available within the agreed project scope. Refining an approved component is a revision. Adding new page types, major functionality or replacing the agreed concept with a different project is a scope change and may require a revised quote.
Common questions
Will the theme be based on a marketplace template?
No, not when the project is quoted as custom theme development. The templates and design system are developed for the agreed website.
Will I own the theme?
After full payment and completion, the client receives the custom deliverables created for the project, subject to any open-source or third-party licences used.
Can you maintain the theme later?
Yes. Ongoing updates can be covered through a separate WordPress maintenance agreement where needed.
